How many speakers can I connect to the Sonos Amp?
Please note, all speakers connected to the Sonos Amp will output the same audio at the same volume. If you'd like independent zones of audio, you'll need an Amp per zone.
Sonos-Branded Speakers
A total of 3x pairs (6x units) of Sonos-branded passive speakers can connected back to the same Sonos Amp, made up of any of the three following models:
- Sonos In-Ceiling Speakers (6" and 8")
- Sonos In-Wall Speakers
- Sonos Outdoor Speakers
Using up to 6 Sonos In-Ceiling or In-Wall Speakers allows for TruePlay tuning in the Sonos app on an iOS device. TruePlay is not available for Sonos Outdoor Speakers.
Other Brands of Speakers
When using any of our other brands of speakers, such as Monitor Audio, Bowers & Wilkins and KEF, you will be able to connect up to 4x speakers (2 pairs) in total to the same Sonos Amp. When connecting a single stereo speaker this would still count as a pair.
This can consist of any of the following configurations:
- 2x pairs of matching speakers
- 1x pair of speakers & 1x single-stereo speaker
- 2x single-stereo speakers.
PLEASE SEE OUR WIRING GUIDES HERE.
Any more than 4 non-Sonos speakers on the same Sonos Amp could cause damage and void your warranty. Only connect 6 speakers to the same Amp if they're Sonos-Branded.
Using the Sonos Amp with a Speaker Switch
As all speakers connected to the same Amp will produce the same audio and volume simultaneously, further Amps are recommended for controlling separate zones.
But as a cost-effective solution, Audioflow switches can be used so that the same Amp can isolate speaker pairs when required.
Please note that speaker switches do not increase the Amp’s load capacity and the above guidelines should still be adhered to when using multiple speakers.
