Swapping from Wireless to Wired Networks on Sonos
Sonos systems can run on either a WiFi network or on a wired set-up instead. This guide shows how you can swap to a wired network when previously running on WiFi.
Why Swap to a Wired Network?
- If WiFi network connectivity in your home is patchy.
- As a temporary solution if you’re struggling to set up new Sonos devices.
- If you wish to launch Sonos’ own wireless mesh network.
Switching to a Wired Sonos System
Connecting at least one Sonos product to the router with an Ethernet connection changes your system to a wired configuration.
Please note, the Sonos Sub and any rear surround speakers cannot be used as wired devices.
How to Switch to a Wired Sonos System
- Ensure the device you wish to wire is already set up as a wireless device.
- Connect an Ethernet cable to the speaker/product, then the other end to the router.
- Certain Sonos products may disappear from the Rooms tab in the Sonos app as they connect to the new network - they should reappear again within 2-minutes.
- Any missing products can be rebooted by consulting Reboot Your Sonos Product.
