How to position a Sonos soundbar
This guide helps find the optimal position for your Sonos Beam or Sonos Arc soundbar
Where Should I Place my Sonos Soundbar?
Both the Sonos Beam and Arc are best being placed underneath the TV so that they project their sound in the same direction as the screen.
Sonos soundbars can either sit on a hard, level surface, or each soundbar can be wall-mounted using our range of Beam and Arc supports. Browse compatible wall mounts >>
⚠️ Placing either of the Sonos soundbars above the TV is not recommended. The sound will travel over the head of the listener, impairing performance of the resulting soundstage.
It's also not recommended to place in a recessed wall.
How much space should you leave between the TV & soundbar?
Sonos Beam
When wall-mounting your Sonos Beam Gen 1 or Gen 2, we recommend a safe minimum space of 2-3” between the bottom of your TV and the top of the Beam.
The above spacing recommendation also allows enough room so that the Beam’s mic for Alexa and Google Assistant services remains unobstructed.
Dolby Atmos on the Sonos Beam Gen 2
The Gen 2 Beam utilises its forward-facing and angled drivers, meaning there’s no upward-firing drivers to be obstructed.
Sonos Arc
When wall-mounting your Sonos Arc beneath your TV, a minimum spacing of between 4-6” is best recommended to prevent obstructing its upward-firing drivers when playing Atmos content.
The Sonos Arc also features side-firing drivers, so it’s best to ensure these aren’t too close to a wall in order to prevent unwanted reverberations and echoes.
