Does Sonos work with a projector?
This guide helps with a few pointers on using a projector display with either your Sonos Beam, Arc or Amp.
Does Sonos Work with a Projector?
Although it takes a little more wiring compared to connecting a Sonos soundbar to your TV, it is possible to use a projector with any of the following Sonos home cinema products:
- Sonos Beam (Gen 1 & Gen 2)
- Sonos Arc
- Sonos Amp
You may need some extra equipment and cables in between, and below we detail the most common connection methods depending on the projector you’re using.
For Projectors with HDMI-ARC/eARC Connections
If your projector features either HDMI-ARC or eARC, the good news is that you can wire directly to your Sonos Beam, Arc or Amp. Such projectors as the Samsung Premiere LSP7T come complete with the required HDMI-eARC terminal for a direct connection to your Sonos soundbar.
HDMI-ARC and eARC are special audio return connections which pass dedicated audio information from your display to your soundbar or AV amplifier. Not to be mistaken with a regular HDMI port.
More details on HDMI-ARC Vs. eARC can be seen here.
Projectors without HDMI-ARC/eARC Connections
Many projectors available today only feature HDMI video inputs for receiving a video source, but not an HDMI-ARC or eARC connection for sending audio out to a receiving soundbar.
Instead, you will need to use a device called an HDMI Matrix/splitter to split the video and audio feeds from your source. This device then directs the video to the projector and the audio to your Sonos Beam, Arc or Amp.
