What is the Ethernet Port used for on a Sonos Product?

All Sonos products except for the Sonos Move/2, Roam/SL, Era 100 & Era 300 (separate adapter for Era products avilable) come with a handy Ethernet port so that you have the option to create a permanent wired link between your Sonos speaker and your wireless router.

What is the benefit?

Connecting at least one Sonos speaker via ethernet to your WiFi router will launch SonosNet and create a dedicated wireless mesh for your entire Sonos system to connect to, improving the reliability of your Sonos speakers working reliably on your network.

Is this a requirement?

While this can improve the reliability of your speakers maintaining music playback on your network, we would only recommend doing this if you have:

- A large home where WiFi sometimes struggles to reach all areas

- Poor WiFi signal or speed

- If you have 5 or more Sonos zones
