Troubleshooting battery drain issues on the Sonos Roam
Is your Sonos Roam’s battery running out of juice too soon?
If so, here are some handy hints and tips to check your Sonos Roam is optimised for longer playback time between charges.
🔋 The Sonos Roam’s 18WH battery usually provides 10-hours of music playback. Factors like volume, Bluetooth and room temperature will decrease playback time.
Battery Saver Mode
By default, the Sonos Roam enters sleep mode after 30-minutes of inactivity but its receivers remain active so that it can respond to a command. This still consumes battery life.
Battery Saver Mode can be activated as to prolong battery life between charges, ensuring that the Roam fully powers-down after 30-minutes of inactivity instead.
Here’s how to activate Battery Saver Mode:
- Open the Sonos app on iOS or Android.
- Select System, then press System.
- Find and press the name of your Sonos Roam (or Move).
- Press Power, then toggle Battery Saver on or off.
Battery Saver Mode is available from Sonos Firmware update 13.4 and onwards.
Use the Correct Power Adaptor
The Sonos Roam charges from either the optional Sonos Roam Wireless Charger or via its USB-C port when you’re on the go.
Whilst most USB-C chargers for smart devices should work fine, charger adaptors for older tech products often give less charging current and result in longer overall charging times.
If your adaptor does not supply enough current to the Roam, an ‘Insufficient power supply’ message will appear against your Roam in the System and Settings menus of the Sonos app.
Sonos recommends a 5V/2A (10W) USB charger. The Sonos Roam also charges from 5V/1.5A (7.5W) adaptors, albeit much more slowly.
Sonos Diagnostics
Although the Sonos Roam usually offers a long life between charges, if it’s failing to accept or hold charge a Sonos Diagnostic can help test and confirm if your unit is faulty.
