I'm unimpressed with the sound quality on my Sonos speaker, what can I do?
Everyone’s ears are different, which means sometimes, the factory settings of a speaker straight out of the box may not be fine-tuned exactly to your taste. Rest assured there are some things we can suggest to ensure you're getting the best audio quality possible.
Trueplay
This feature can be utilised to acoustically optimise the speakers to the room they're in. This ensures you're always getting the purest sound possible.
How to tune your Sonos speaker
Connect to the best possible port for more immersive audio
When using the soundbar with your TV, ensure you're using the best possible port your TV has. For example, you'll have access to better audio codecs by using the eARC port. Dolby Atmos can also be accessed when using an eArc port, so you'll benefit from an even more immersive experience. If you don't have eArc, you can still use HDMI Arc and there's even a chance you'll still have access to a compressed version of Dolby Atmos.
Make sure you're listening in the best audio format!
Sometimes, you may need to fiddle with the TV settings to ensure you're receiving Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, or even Dolby Atmos.
If your App is showing as PCM 2.0 I don't blame you for feeling unimpressed!
Here's what you may need to change depending on your TV model:
Sony TV’s
Settings > Audio Output > Digital Audio Out > Auto 1 (or the option that is not PCM)
Settings > Audio Output > Dolby Digital Plus Output > (select Dolby Digital Plus for eArc)
Samsung TV’s
Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > HDMI eArc Mode > Auto
Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Select Dolby Atmos
LG TV’s
Settings > All Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings > enable Dolby Atmos
Settings > All Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings > DTV Audio Setting > Auto
Settings > All Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings > eArc
Adjust the EQ
Bass lacking? Or want to increase the treble?
Open the Sonos app > From the Settings tab press System > Press the name of the room you'd like to adjust > Press EQ, and then drag the sliders to make adjustments
