Set-Up Alexa on Voice-enabled Sonos Speakers

This guide helps set up Amazon Alexa on a voice-enabled Sonos device. If you’re using an Amazon Echo or Dot to control Sonos, try Using an Amazon Alexa product to Control Sonos

Setting-Up Alexa on your Voice-Enabled Sonos Speaker

Before we begin, ensure that your Sonos speaker is set up as normal and that you’re running the latest version of the Sonos app. Also, make sure you’re logged into your Amazon Alexa app.

 Initial Set-up

Please follow these stepson Sonos S2:

  • Open the Sonos App on iOS or Android.
  • Select Settings, followed by Voice and then Services & Voice.
  • Press Add a Voice Assistant, then choose Alexa.
  • You may be prompted to sign in to your Sonos account.

The above instructions also apply to Sonos S1 but Add a Service will appear in place of Add a Voice Assistant like in Sonos S2.

 Selecting Rooms

Once you’ve selected Add to Sonos follow these next steps:

  • Choose rooms from the list to add Alexa to.
  • Once chosen, press Add Amazon Alexa and then Sign into Amazon.
  • The Amazon login page will appear, then log in as normal.
  • On-screen steps will follow for adding Alexa to your speaker.

The Alexa response chime can be turned on or off in the Alexa app at any time.

 Add Music Services in the Alexa App

Follow these steps to integrate music services with Alexa:

  • Select your chosen music service for use with Alexa.
  • Ensure the same services are added in your Sonos app too.
  • Exit the Alexa app and reopen the Sonos app.
  • When prompted, press ‘I’ve set up my music in Alexa’.
